News!

After all my blogging about this publication, it feels good to be announcing that myself and fellow student Nina Mcnamara (Check out her blog - Das Wunderkammer) will be embarking on a four week  placement at Flux magazine! We shall be working alongside art director John Walsh and designing the next edition of the publication. So so very excited and chuffed to have been selected!

So keep your eyes peeled - it will be available nationwide, in stores such as WHSmith and Magma, this summer!!

BIG GRIN :)

my final FLUX designs.

I created my own mini-edition with the layouts I had designed for my Flux project. Pretty pleased with the final result. (nb: the white edges of the magazine have since been guillotined off.)

BOOK

For 36 weeks, a sketchbook was sent in random order between four artists; 2 from Brooklyn, NY and 2 from Belfast, Ireland.

Every Wednesday, one participant would receive the book, and have 5 days to design a spread in response to the one that proceeded it. It would then be sent on to the next artist the following Monday.

There was no communication between the artists about the completion of the book. Its first journey was on 2/6/2003 and its final trip was on 2/2/2004, travelling over 60 thousand miles in the process.

I hate my sketchbooks; I find them such a trial to complete and not a natural way for me to conjure up ideas and developments. I find myself spending waaay too long on them; and they end up becoming so forced and rigid. I think this is why I love this idea so much - it's spontaneous, requires no structure and can go in endless directions (somewhat literally). A really cool idea, and the visuals that have been created are beautiful.

BB take 2

Just a little editing. Text looks less cluttered and have introduced another pantone to add more interest.
