BOOK

For 36 weeks, a sketchbook was sent in random order between four artists; 2 from Brooklyn, NY and 2 from Belfast, Ireland.

Every Wednesday, one participant would receive the book, and have 5 days to design a spread in response to the one that proceeded it. It would then be sent on to the next artist the following Monday.

There was no communication between the artists about the completion of the book. Its first journey was on 2/6/2003 and its final trip was on 2/2/2004, travelling over 60 thousand miles in the process.

I hate my sketchbooks; I find them such a trial to complete and not a natural way for me to conjure up ideas and developments. I find myself spending waaay too long on them; and they end up becoming so forced and rigid. I think this is why I love this idea so much - it's spontaneous, requires no structure and can go in endless directions (somewhat literally). A really cool idea, and the visuals that have been created are beautiful.
